Tech Boost! 3 Websites to Increase Student Engagement

The weather is beautiful, students broke out the shorts and everyone is counting down to the end of the year. How do we keep our students interested? Teachers are not only tasked with prepping for the state test, but also for end-of-year testing. The pressure is on, but where is the time? For a quick way to change things up in your classroom, check out these websites! Let us know what works best for you!

1. Breaking News Generator

Students are able to create their own breaking news (including the picture). Students will create their own headline for social studies class, create a catchy headline for a Bio topic or introduce vocab with this customizable website. Save some paper next week and don’t print out exit tickets – try this out instead.

2. Virtual Nerd

So many schools are using some form of learning management system. But how are you using it? Many teachers provide resources to sites like Kahn Academy. However, students complain about just listening without seeing an actual person. Virtual Nerd is a helpful site that shows a teacher demonstrating lessons. This is a great supplement to the curriculum taught in class!

3. Storybird

Students can create their own books! A nice perk to this website is that it provides the illustrations. Professional artwork options allow students to say what they want and also be creative with available images. This is a great way to motivate students to write. No matter the class, this website provides opportunities to create narratives, biographies, persuasive essays – you name it!
